play a progressive machine
Now, if you’re going to play a progressive machine and are an all-or-nothing type of player, you have a choice to make before you ever put the first coin in the slot.
You have to determine just how much you’re willing to lose. Without frequent small payoffs to keep you close to even, you will immediately fall behind on one of these machines, and you’ll get deeper and deeper into the hole until—well, until you either hit the jackpot or quit. Know how much you are in the red and, when you reach the magic number, quit. Promptly. Without even giving it a thought.
I shouldn’t have to tell you this, because it’s simply a matter of common sense, but pay heed nonetheless. Every year people do fall into this trap.
Don’t play slot machines because you think it’s going to soothe some sort of pain you have. Don’t go to Vegas or At¬lantic City because you just broke up with your boyfriend or girlfriend.
